Having your photograph taken can be a daunting experience for anyone who isn't a supermodel. Luckily, our Melbourne photographer, Kate, is on hand to share a few photography tips to help you make the most of your photo shoot, and to shake off those nerves!
Co-ordinating outfits I always advise families to try and co-ordinate outfits, or at the very least to not to wear anything too patterned - plain tops and jeans work best if possible.
Pack your kid's favourite toy! It's great to use a favourite toy or blanket to make your child feel at ease in front of the camera, it also encourages lots of natural smiles and candid shots.
Be honest about what works for you As a photographer, it's important to know what you are hoping to get out of your photo session. If you prefer natural shots to formal poses, definitely feel free to speak up and say, we want our photography to compliment your family's style. Sometimes we like to take photos of everyone sitting on the ground, but if you feel that the grandparents would be happier not to, let us know!
Photographers love to hear your ideas We're a sucker for Pinterest boards too, and although we will come prepared with a stack of ideas in our heads, we love it when people have their own too! This is your photo shoot, so make the most of it and try out that posing!
Striking a pose Casual and informal posing is key. I know some people can feel super awkward with a camera pointing at them, so for guys I recommend crossing arms or putting hands in pockets to feel more relaxed. We are pros at making sure the poses are flattering and natural.
Dressing up the little ones Little girls in tutus and what not are always super cute, and boys in braces! And hats. Hats are awesome on little people.
And lastly... Lots of cuddles!
Kate is our photographer for our Melbourne My Family Photo sessions, and you can book a shoot with her here.
